Sophia Uehara is a Japanese-American Production Designer based in New York City and Los Angeles.

Raised by two classically trained visual artists, Sophia grew up fascinated with the intersection of art, media, representation, and education. She completed her education at New York University, Tisch School of the Arts, and went on to production design multiple award winning features, commercials, and music videos. Her commercial clients include Kodansha Publishers, Google, Hyundai, Lexus, Nissan, Starbucks, and AT&T.

She hopes that in her work, she can make audiences second-guess their preconceived notions of a character’s given identity and open the door to new avenues of empathy and connection.

As a documentary director, Sophia delves into themes of truth and the impact of different mediums on education and perception. She also loves Sesame Street, Tetris, cats, and Japanese homestyle cooking.

植原ソフィア は、ニューヨークとロサンゼルスを拠点に活動する日系アメリカ人の美術監督だ。

美術家の両親のもとに育ち、幼い頃からアートやメディア、表現、教育の交わる場所に魅了されてきました。ニューヨーク大学ティッシュ芸術学部を卒業後、数々の受賞歴のある長編映画やCM、ミュージックビデオの美術デザインを手がけている。

新しい共感やつながりを感じられるような世界を描くことを目指している。

またドキュメンタリー監督として、真実やメディアが教育や認識に与える影響をテーマに制作しています。セサミストリート、テトリス、猫、そして日本の家庭料理が大好きだ。🍱🐈
