Sophia Uehara is a Japanese American Production Designer and documentary director based in New York City and Los Angeles.

Raised by two classically trained visual artists, Sophia grew up fascinated with the intersection of art, media, representation, and education. A graduate of New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, she is currently art directing two upcoming restaurant concepts for AYS Hospitality Group, leading the projects’ overall visual direction. Her commercial clients include Kodansha Publishers, Google, Hyundai, Lexus, Nissan, Starbucks, and AT&T. 

She hopes that in her work, she can make audiences second-guess their preconceived notions of specific cultural identities and open the door to new avenues of empathy and connection through design.

As a documentary director, Sophia delves into themes of truth and the impact of different mediums on education and perception. She is in post production for her documentary short The 8th Principle chronicling the adoption of an anti-racism tenent within a small American religious community.

She also loves Sesame Street, Tetris, cats, and Japanese homestyle cooking.

美術家の両親のもとに育ち、幼い頃からアートやメディア、表現、教育の交わる場所に魅了されてきました。ニューヨーク大学ティッシュ芸術学部を卒業後、数々の受賞歴のある長編映画やCM、ミュージックビデオの美術デザインを手がけている。

新しい共感やつながりを感じられるような世界を描くことを目指している。

またドキュメンタリー監督として、真実やメディアが教育や認識に与える影響をテーマに制作しています。セサミストリート、テトリス、猫、そして日本の家庭料理が大好きだ。🍱🐈
